Lucas goes to school every day of the week. He has many subjects to go to each school day: English, art, science, mathematics, gym, and history. His mother packs a big backpack full of books and lunch for Lucas. His first class is English, and he likes that teacher very much. His English teacher says that he is a good pupil, which Lucas knows means that she thinks he is a good student. His next class is art. He draws on paper with crayons and pencils and sometimes uses a ruler. Lucas likes art. It is his favorite class.

STUDENT WELL-BEING

According to Dr. Davis in her article in Psychology today, well–being is the event in a person’s life where he/she experience happiness, prosperity, that includes having good mental, emotional, social, physical, spiritual, environmental health.  This definition simply means having high satisfaction in life, sense of meaning and purpose or just feeling well. In the Oxford dictionary, well–being is defined as the condition of being comfortable, happy, or healthy.

A deeper kind of well – being is about living in a way that is good for us and others around us.  It is a positive experience demonstrating happiness, contentment, enjoyment, curiosity, or engagement in the community.  The magnitude to psychologically function well, maintain positive relationships, having high self – esteem, high self – confidence, and having control of our lives are equally important to well – being.  In addition having an adequate amount of money, a safe home/ school environment, close friends, sense of belonging and a balanced diet are other areas that influence our state of well – being.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

To be healthy and live a long life, proper nutrition is really essential.  We eat food every day, and food is part of our life. The nutrients and energy found in the food we eat allows us to grow, be healthy, active such as being able to play, work, think, study, and move.  Each particular food that we take contains specific nutrition such as protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fats, electrolytes which are needed for holistic growth.

Food after water and air, plays an important role in preventing diseases and promoting health. It is a mixture of various ingredients that are eaten for nutrition.  Nutrition on the other hand, indicates a powerful action in which the consumed food is used for nourishment of the human body. The more we eat balanced food, our body will get proper nutrition.  When there is an insufficient amount of protein, or carbohydrate intake, it often results to illness or infection.  Eating nutritious food allows our body and mind with the energy needed to grow, feel well, be active, learn, and staying healthy.

WHAT FOODS ARE GOOD FOR OUR BODY AND WHAT THESE FOODS DO TO OUR BODY?

There is a phrase that many nutritionists use to remind us to include more fruits and vegetables in our diet and this is called “Eat the Rainbow.”  The colourful and natural foods available on our table/ kitchen supports healthy growth and prevents problems like iron deficiency, dental cavities, tooth decay, anemia, diabetes, obesity, kwashiorkor, high blood pressure, brittle hair, tiredness, stress, increased severity of infections, dizziness,  eyesight or heart problems, etc.
